Celebrating Freedom – David Knight [11:00 am]

Sunday, January 8th, 2012
Like Israel delivered from Egypt, our ‘Passover’ re-sets our calendar. We live in time as people who belong to another place and time,
as new creation people, worshippers, warriors of righteousness and witnesses of God’s presence and power in our lives.

Re-Setting Our Calendar – David Knight [10:00 am]

Sunday, January 1st, 2012
Like Israel delivered from Egypt, our ‘Passover’ re-sets our calendar. We live in time as people who belong to another place and time,
as new creation people, worshippers, warriors of righteousness and witnesses of God’s presence and power in our lives.

Expecting Immanuel [David Knight - 11 am]

Sunday, December 4th, 2011
The name Immanuel was a promise and a prayer – “may God be with us” – the ancient human longing. The birth of Jesus was the first part of God’s answer to that prayer, and his second coming will answer it in fullness. Today we live expectantly between the promise and the finale – but the world does not expect us to live up to our truth-claim. Will we show them that it really is true?  The name Immanuel was a promise and a prayer – “may God be with us” – the ancient human longing. “SHAPING our Future” 2 (Teaching S.H.A.P.E.) – David Knight [11 am]

Sunday, October 30th, 2011

Jesus’ parable of the talents – Matt 25:14-30 teaches that God has given each of us gifts and abilities to serve him in the world. How you use those gifts determines the shape of your soul and the impact of your life.

A Jesus Disciple’s Mind [David Knight - 9 am]

Sunday, September 18th, 2011
There’s a mind-set among Christians that is deadly, but another that breeds life and peace. Paul teaches Timothy that being a Jesus-shaped disciple means renewing your mind to think like Jesus in 5 distinct ways – and teaching others to think like him too.

By the Rivers of Babylon – Psalm 137 – How do we get from revenge to forgiveness? [David Knight - 11am]

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Psalm 137 is both a lament for a painful situation and a plea for justice. It is expressed in language designed to shock us into recognizing the reality of evil in the world and to bring that before God. Jesus teaches us an even more costly and constructive response to evil–the path of forgiveness and blessing. As we pray psalms like this in the spirit of Jesus our natural instincts are transformed and we are re-shaped for Kingdom living in a hostile world.

Psalm 104 – All Creation Praises You [David Knight - 11am]

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Psalm 104 is a psalm in praise to the Creator – in contrast to the pagan world that worships the creation, the secular world that exploits the creation, and the Gnostic impulse in Christianity that shuns the creation. It teaches us how to serve and glorify God by living in right relationship with both creation and Creator.

Psalm 42 – Why am I so Sad? [David Knight - 11am]

Monday, July 11th, 2011
Psalm 42 is a Psalm of Disorientation – it helps us find ways to connect with God when the usual rules of faith don’t seem to work, when life doesn’t add up as we think it should.

Psalm One – Planted by Streams of Water [David Knight - 11am]

Monday, July 4th, 2011

The power of the culture around us is so strong, it must be countered by something strong enough to sustain the roots of our faith and result in fruitful living. Psalm One introduces us to such a life, anchored in Torah, rooted in God, and resulting in a vibrant God-shaped community.
