Depending with Rough Knees – James 5:13-20 [Gord Brock - 11 am]

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

James 5 is a call to Pray: Pray for yourself, have elders pray over the sick, and pray for each other. Listen for a subtle rebuke to shepherd-elders who don’t have the faith to pray for healing and churches that don’t pray in the spirit of Elijah.

“Feels” Like: Rough Knees [David Knight - 11am]

Before we get on our knees to pray, we need hearts that crave God’s will in our lives. James challenges us along three common fault-lines in Christian misbehaviour – self-indulgence and the lure of affluence, impatience with unfulfilled hopes and dreams, and being less than fully truthful. We learn from him how to lament, repent and become trustful.

“Feels” Like: Living with “Broken Hearts” (James 4:12-17) [James Kelly - 11am]

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Warning: You aren’t Jesus. Jesus is Judge, not you. Jesus is Savior, not you. Jesus is in control, not you. Jesus defines humility, not you. Jesus is sinless, not you. Jesus wept, broke, died and rose for you. Jesus loves you.

“Tastes” Like: Speaking with “Pierced Tongues” (James 3:13-18) [Jay Brock - 9am]

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

We live in a world where everyone has something to say, and very few have lives that back it up. How quickly we forget: there’s talking-and then there’s speaking. Maybe we need to crucify our tongue in order to resurrect our voice. There’s a VERY good chance that if we don’t make the transition from talk to action… that if our feet never move and our tongues never stop… that the world will see Jesus as a talking head instead of a moving body.

Pierced Tongues – James 3:1-12 [Jan 10 - David Knight]
